Wood privacy fences in Frisco
Height, board-on-board, wood type and posts, with what nearby cities require.
Frisco's own FAQ covers permits and heights for wood fences, while Prosper and Celina publish construction details too. Even if you're in Frisco, those details show what to ask a contractor about.
Height
In Frisco, up to 8 feet from grade in side and rear yards, and 4 feet in front of the house, per the city FAQ. Prosper's submittal sheet also caps fences at 8 feet from grade.
Board-on-board vs. side-by-side

Board-on-board uses two staggered layers so the boards overlap. Both Prosper and Celina require it for street-facing wood fences:
- Prosper: "Wooden fences on lots or tracts that are adjacent to a street and visible from the street shall be constructed as board-on-board with a top rail."
- Celina: street-facing fences are to be "board-on-board with top cap, smooth side out," with vertical posts not visible from the street.
Frisco's FAQ doesn't mention board-on-board. Your HOA may, so check. City details: Prosper, Celina.
Cedar or pine?
Prosper's sheet requires "an insect-resistant wood, such as cedar or pressure treated yellow pine." Ask any contractor which wood they're quoting, and its grade.
Posts
Prosper requires galvanized steel posts, at least 16 gauge, no more than 8 feet apart. Celina requires galvanized steel posts with approved caps, set in concrete. Frisco's FAQ doesn't specify posts, so ask the contractor what they use and how they set them.
Stain
Published stain or paint costs run $3.50 to $13 per linear foot (HomeAdvisor) and $2 to $14 per linear foot (HomeGuide). Ask whether stain is included or a separate line.
