Pool fence requirements in Frisco
Frisco has specific rules for fences that enclose a pool. Here is a summary.
Frisco's fence submittal form says a fence replacement around a residential pool has additional requirements, and points to the city's Health & Food Safety pages. The city's Residential Pools, Spas, Fountains and Splashpad Enclosure Requirements (Form 107, November 2024) set them out. Key points:
Height
"Barrier (fence) height shall be a minimum of 48'' measured on the side of the barrier that faces away from the swimming pool."
Gates
"All pedestrian yard gates must have self-closing, self-latching gates and open away from the pool." If the latch release is less than 54 inches from the bottom of the gate, it must be on the pool side, at least 3 inches below the top.
Gaps and climbing
- No more than 2 inches between grade and the bottom of the barrier.
- Limits on spacing between vertical members, which matter for iron and aluminum designs.
- The barrier must be placed so walls, equipment and similar objects can't be used to climb it.
Read the whole form. This is a summary. The city's document has the full requirements and exceptions. Ask your contractor to confirm in writing that the design meets it.
Replacing a fence that's part of the pool barrier
If your back fence is also the pool barrier, replacing it isn't just a fence job. The gates, gaps and height all need to meet the enclosure rules. Plan for the permit and tell the contractor about the pool up front.
