Fence repair in Frisco
What common repairs cost, when replacement makes more sense, and when a repair needs a permit.
A leaning section, a post snapped in a storm, a gate that won't latch: most fence problems are fixable without replacing the whole run. The questions are what it costs, when repair stops making sense, and whether the job is big enough to need a permit.

What repairs cost
| Problem | Published range |
|---|---|
| Typical repair, such as a panel or a post | $300 to $900 |
| Damaged post | $250 to $600 per post |
| Leaning section | $200 to $800 |
| Broken or missing section | $200 to $1,000 |
| Fallen fence | $300 to $1,500 |
| Rot | $300 to $1,200 |
| Rust or corrosion (metal) | $250 to $1,000 |
By material, HomeGuide lists repairs at $20 to $35 per linear foot for wood, $25 to $45 for vinyl, $20 to $50 for aluminum and $30 to $60 for wrought iron.
Repair or replace?
HomeGuide's view is that repair "makes sense when damage is limited and the fence is structurally sound." It puts full replacement at $30 to $80 or more per linear foot. If more than a few posts are failing, or rot runs along the bottom of most boards, price both and compare.
When a repair needs a permit
| City | What the city says |
|---|---|
| Frisco | No permit for repairing or replacing a portion "limited to two (2) sections or sixteen (16) feet." Anything larger needs one. |
| The Colony | A permit is required "to repair or replace any part of a fence more than 50%." |
| Lewisville | A permit is required for a replacement fence "exceeding 10% of the total fence in length." |
| Celina | A footing inspection is required if posts are added or replaced, and a final inspection for every fence project. |
Prosper and Little Elm: we didn't find a published repair threshold, so ask before replacing posts or sections. Frisco's permit fee is $75 (effective 10/1/2026).
New posts mean digging
Replacing a post means a new hole. Texas811 says Texas law requires excavators to contact 811 at least two business days before digging, not counting weekends and holidays. Ask the contractor who makes the call.
Worth asking
- Wood or steel replacement posts, and how will they be set?
- Will new boards match the old ones, and will the repair be stained to blend in?
- Is the rest of the fence close to failing, and what would replacement cost instead?
